Learn the fundamentals of working with non-ferrous metal. In this 4-week workshop you get introductory instruction for turning sheet metal and wire into custom objects. The first project will focus on sawing to create a key chain finished with a riveted wire ring and in the second project we will dive into a variety of soldering processes to create a one-of-a-kind pendant with a bezel-set stone. The basic jewelry kit includes brass and copper and silver bezel wire but you can upgrade your kit so that your pendant can be made in silver. Please contact me in advance of the first session if you would like to upgrade. The fee is $65.
This class runs either:
Thursdays, October 15 to November 5 from 5:30-8:30 or
Saturdays October 17 to November 7 from 1:00-4:00
Skills covered include:
• sawing & piercing
• sanding & filing
• basic riveting
• bezel setting
• soldering with high-temp silver solder
• polishing with a rotary tool
The stacking rings class is recommended but not required to take in advance. A simple silver chain will be included. Safety instructions and precautions will be provided.
Everyone works at their own pace so even though most participants will complete their projects during the workshop, some folks made need a little extra time. On Sundays throughout the duration of the course, there will be open studio hours where you can come in to complete your project at no cost.
